A Working Ranch & World Class Fishery on the Rio Blanco

Experience the pinnacle of private-water fly fishing and historic high-country solitude, protected by a legacy of land stewardship.

El Rancho Pinoso

Situated on 863 acres in the Blanco Basin, and surrounded by 12,000-foot granite peaks, El Rancho Pinoso is an enclave of beauty and serenity; it embodies a timeless spirit of the West. Sunshine floods the open basin area where stately ponderosas, fresh air, and hummingbirds are in ample supply. The 2 cabins, The Cowboy House and Log Cabin, are separated by the manicured lawn and adjacent to rustic barns and corrals that surround it, providing guests with their own private compound.

2.2 miles of the meandering Rio Blanco, a tributary of the San Juan River, cuts through El Rancho Pinoso making it a centerpiece of the ranch. It carries with it healthy populations of large and colorful Browns, Brookies and Rainbows, and teems with deep pools and shallow riffles.

The Cowboy House

The Cowboy House is the second original cabin at El Rancho Pinoso, built in the 1960s and thoughtfully remodeled in the 1990s. With a recently renovated kitchen and bathrooms, it still holds onto its classic charm—authentic wood paneling, a river-rock fireplace, and the relaxed feel of a true ranch cabin that makes guests feel right at home. The exterior logs were just restored, giving the cabin a fresh look while preserving its character. Enjoy stunning views, lounge in the rocking chairs on the front porch, or pitch horseshoes on the lawn. The Cowboy House sleeps up to 10 guests.

Oriented to look down the valley toward the mountains, the front porch is made for slow mornings with sweeping views, relaxed seating, and an amazing garden just outside. Inside, you will find a full eat in kitchen for easy meals, a dining room framed by dramatic scenery, and a cozy living room anchored by a working fireplace for evenings back from the river.
